TF20 TEM, Room B146C     Electron Imaging Center for NanoMachines (EICN)
Quantity: 1     Usage Type: Essential
Training Required: Yes     Training Level: 1     Training Service Type: aid/trainer required     Approval Required: Yes     Service Type: self-service
Description: The TF20 TEM is from the FEI TecnaiG2 Family, and is suitable for cryoelectron microscopy, cryoelectron tomography, and room temperature TEM. Its features include:

Key features:

  • 200 kV, Field emission gun (FEG)
  • Computer-controlled cryoET
  • Liquid nitrogen stage
  • Cs=2.0 mm
  • Suitable for both cryoelectron microscopy and cryoelectron tomography.
This electron microscope is equipped with a TWIN lens. In addition to these features, the TF20 is controlled by a dedicated computer running Windows XP. Images captured from the TF20 can be recorded on either film or the TIETZ F415MP CCD camera. This camera is 4K x 4K with a pixel size of 15 ?m, and has multiport readout which should decrease the time necessary for information transmission. The image processing programs installed are EMMENU4, EMMENU3, and the TIETZ Tomography Package.

Rates: Internal Academic rate: $60/hour; External Academic rate: $85/hour; Industry rate: $120/hour

You are required to have at least 10 hours of previous experience on any modern FEI TEM with compustage in order to be qualified for TF20 training. Instructions to become a user can be found here: EICN Become a User. Training can be requested by emailing eicnhelp@cnsi.ucla.edu. If you do not receive a reply within 48 hours, you can email Matthew Mecklenburg (mmecklenburg@cnsi.ucla.edu) to follow up.
